Stage 3

Sibiu – Poiana Brașov, 187 km

A climb at the end

Again, a long stage ending with a climb. Poiana Brașov is a well-known resort for winter sports, but the “roadies” will reach the 1100m altitude on a summer day, after a final stage which will definitely decide the final ranking in the Tour of Romania.

Stage profile

The Council Tower has always been the most iconic building in Sibiu. The name of tower was given by its defence role, guarding the entrance gate into the second precinct, located just near the building which once hosted the City Hall of Sibiu, first mentioned by documents in 1324.

The construction of the fortress started in 1310, replacing older clay and wood fortifications from the 12th century. The fortress was built for purely strategic reasons, more specifically to defend South-East Transylvania from Tatar and Ottoman attacks.

Râșnov Fortress is the fortified ensemble located on the limestone hill located south of Râșnov in Brașov County, one of the best preserved fortified ensembles in Transylvania. One of the oldest structures preserved to date from the fourteenth century.
